FORMS OF CONTRACT
In British Columbia there are two standard agreements between architects and their clients. The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada publishes the most commonly used contract:
Canadian Standard Form of Contract for Architectural Services DOCUMENT SIX

The Architectural Institute of British Columbia also publishes a short form contract that can be used for special or limited services (though services provided under this contract must still conform to the Minimum Scope of Architectural Services):

AIBC Doc.8

While Architects are not required to use either of these contracts, our preference is to do so. We are required to ensure that our engagement is on terms and conditions consistent with the AIBC’s required standards. Additional fees may be requested for review of non-standard contract documents.
